I am currently searching for PhD students. Please get in touch via my email above if you have strong qualifications and are interested in optimisation for deep learning.

I am a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Bath. My research focuses on the Foundations of Deep Learning. Deep learning is everywhere, yet most of it is poorly understood and based on heuristics. I want to improve the core algorithms it relies upon, whether that involves optimisation, efficiency, uncertainty quantification, theory, or anything else!

I did my PhD at the University of Bristol from 2021-2025, supervised by Dr Laurence Aitchison.
